Call It as It Is

The bag is coming along rather decently at the moment, and I think I may actually not rip it apart. I haven’t figured out how to change colors or stitches without a very visible stop and start point staring out from the bag, but there is progress.

As I work on the bag, I’ve been watching “Gone With the Wind.” I’d say Mammie is by far the best character. Hattie’s Best Supporting Actress title is not enough of an accolade to applaud her role.

The movie is ancient, and it’s a chick flick, but Mammie’s observations of people and life ring true as much today as yesterday. No one else can talk to Scarlett like she does, and she’s the only one who can see that Scarlett’s “just like a spider” waiting for Ashley all the time-when he’s married to another woman. She is the only one with the guts to lay it out like it is.

Here’s the link to the best scene of the move:

Scarlett constantly messes up other people’s lives with her selfish, narrow-minded conniving, and Mammie stays true to her nevertheless. That is some serious loyalty. She deserves more than that red silk petticoat Rhett gives her as a token of his respect.

She’s got the brains, perception, and heart I think we all wish we could have. Now, if that woman knew how to crochet a scarf, I think she’d have it made.
